What this part is
The first iPad Air has its LCD and touch glass as two separate parts. When touch still works but the picture is black, has lines or dark marks, or the panel is cracked under intact glass, the LCD needs replacing.
This panel is the LCD only. The glass is lifted and refitted over it. The iPad Air 2 uses a bonded screen with the glass and LCD joined together, so this panel does not fit it.

How to check your model
Turn the iPad over and read the small print on the back, or open Settings › General › About. It should show A1474, A1475 or A1476.
The iPad Air 1st Gen has a 9.7-inch screen, a home button without Touch ID and a mute switch on the side. The Air 2 has Touch ID and no side switch.
Professional installation
How a technician fits this part
- Power the iPad off and warm the edges of the front glass.
- Lift the glass slowly, keeping its cable safe.
- Disconnect the battery, then unscrew and disconnect the old LCD.
- Connect the new LCD and test the picture before sealing.
- Clean the frame and both surfaces, then apply new adhesive.
- Refit the glass, press evenly and run a final check.
Check that the part matches the device before fitting it or removing any adhesive backing. Once a part has been fitted, it cannot be returned for a change of mind. Faulty parts are always covered.
