What this part is
The SIM tray on the iPhone XS Max sits in the right-hand side of the frame and is released with a SIM ejector pin. Trays are easily lost, bent by forcing the wrong card in, or snapped when the phone is dropped with the tray half out.
This is the dual-SIM version of the tray, with space for two nano-SIM cards. Both slots are only read by iPhone XS Max models sold with dual physical SIM support (A2104). On UK and most other models the phone reads one nano-SIM, and the tray still fits and works as a normal single-SIM tray. A tray cannot fix a SIM reader fault on the main board.

How to check your model
Open Settings › General › About. The model name should read iPhone XS Max. Tap the model number to see the A-number (for example A2101).
The iPhone XS Max has a 6.5-inch screen. The iPhone XS is smaller, with a 5.8-inch screen.
Professional installation
How a technician fits this part
- Power the iPhone XS Max off.
- Push a SIM ejector pin into the small hole beside the tray until the old tray pops out.
- Place your nano-SIM card (or two cards on an A2104 model) into the new tray, gold contacts facing down.
- Slide the tray back in the same way round until it sits flush with the frame.
- Power the phone on and check the carrier name and signal bars appear.
Check that the part matches the device before fitting it or removing any adhesive backing. Once a part has been fitted, it cannot be returned for a change of mind. Faulty parts are always covered.
