What this part is
The SIM reader in the iPhone 12 Pro Max is the socket on the logic board that the SIM tray slides into. Its small spring contacts press against the gold pads on your SIM card. A forced tray, a bent SIM adaptor or liquid can damage them, so the phone stops reading the SIM.
This part is the reader socket only. Depending on your tools, fitting means connector or board-level soldering work, so it is a job for an experienced technician. Before ordering, try a second SIM card and check the tray is straight.

How to check your model
Open Settings › General › About. The Model Name should read iPhone 12 Pro Max. Tap the Model Number to show the A-number, which should be one of A2411, A2342, A2410 or A2412.
The iPhone 12 Pro Max has a 6.7-inch OLED screen, three rear cameras and a LiDAR sensor. The iPhone 12 Pro is smaller, with a 6.1-inch screen.
