What this part is
On the iPhone 17, the earpiece speaker and proximity sensor sit together at the top of the phone, behind the display. The earpiece plays the caller's voice, and the sensor switches the screen off when the phone is at your ear.
This assembly replaces both. Choose it when calls are faint, crackly or silent, or when the screen stays lit and your cheek presses buttons during calls. Clean the earpiece grille before ordering, as dust can mimic a failed speaker. Face ID, the front camera and the bottom loudspeaker are separate parts.

How to check your model
Open Settings › General › About. The Model Name should read iPhone 17. Tap the Model Number once to see the A-number, and check it against the model name before you order.
The iPhone 17 has a 6.3-inch screen with a Dynamic Island and two rear cameras. The iPhone 17 Pro has three rear cameras, and the iPhone Air has one.

How a technician fits this part
- Power the iPhone 17 off, warm the screen edges and open the display.
- Disconnect the battery before touching anything else.
- Remove the top bracket and lift out the old earpiece and sensor flex.
- Fit the new assembly and refit the bracket.
- Reconnect everything and test calls and the proximity sensor.
- Close the phone with new adhesive and run a final check.
Check that the part matches the device before fitting it or removing any adhesive backing. Once a part has been fitted, it cannot be returned for a change of mind. Faulty parts are always covered.

How can I tell if the proximity sensor is faulty?
Make a call and cover the top of the screen with your hand. If the display stays on, the proximity sensor is not working and this combined flex is the right part.
